#1 Dr. Horrible
Big fat #1: Dr. Horrible’s Sing-along Blog
(Edit: I thought I’d be nice. Click here to watch on YouTube)
I cannot emphasize enough or get over how fan-girlishly exuberant I feel about anything and everything that has to do with this show! Though I came late to the party, this short film has gripped me more than anything has in a very long time… Well, it really hasn’t been that long, but whenever I’m in the throes of an obsession it always seems like it is the end all and be all and that nothing ever has or ever will be so awesome… But Dr. Horrible is that awesome! I really can’t put into words how happy I was when we watched this the first time. Creative ventures that not only step outside the box but bypass them altogether are near and dear to my heart anyway and they just did such a good job… How could I resist!
So, why Dr. Horrible?
- The music:From the creative minds of Joss and Jed Whedon, the music of Dr. Horrible is wonderful! If the down-to-earth intro of Neil Patrick Harris’ boyish charm wasn’t enough to grip me, the first simple notes of “My Freeze Ray” did it in a flash. And who knew Neil Patrick Harris could sing? (No, seriously… Did you know? Cause if you did and you didn’t tell me… SO HELP ME!) These songs make me happy and what more can you ask for?
- The cast:Obviously, Neil Patrick Harris (heretofore to be referred to as NPH) as the title character, Nathan Fillion as the pretty but arrogant Captain Hammer and Felicia Day as the sweet love interest, Penny. These three deliver lines and belt songs that completely sweep you into the story. Great cast!
- The story:It’s the perfect combination of silly/campy superhero versus villain and love story.
- Overall:I can’t get the damn songs out of my head! All I need to do is hear the beginning strains of one of them when they come up on shuffle and my heart gives a little jump. This project is amazing considering how small it started out. And, I have to confess that I’ve developed quite a crush on NPH even though I don’t usually like blonds and he has a boyfriend. Oh, I just love guys that can sing! (^_^)
(as in old posts… I’m probably still obsessed with them.)
