Rest in Peace, Phil

It never ceases to amaze me how easily we get emotionally involved with the people that we encounter through the media. Through all of these different outlets (music, TV, writing) we really feel like we know these people, though we’ll probably never meet them face to face.

On that note, Phil Harris, a crab boat captain on Discovery’s “Deadliest Catch” died yesterday of a stroke. Aaron and I have been following the show for several years and the Cornelia Marie has always been one of our favorite ships. Not too long ago we were watching the fourth season when Phil was coughing up blood due to a blood clot that had traveled to his lungs. I have to admit that I teared up seeing his pain and the concern of his sons as they made him go back to port for treatment.  Your heart goes out to them, just as it does now. I feel a kind of sadness that seems irrational as I don’t really know the man, but it’s a real prayer that I send to his family and his boys that will be without their dad for the major milestone in their lives.
